Sean's Story

Sean’s Western New York Roots

Sean Bunny is a Sixth-Generation Western New Yorker who has spent his professional career in public service. Sean grew up in East Amherst playing youth hockey and little league baseball, and attending Williamsville public schools.

SEAN’S DISTINGUISHED MILITARY SERVICE

After graduating from Syracuse University, Sean was accepted to Army Officer Candidate School. In October 2006, Sean was commissioned as an infantry Second Lieutenant in the Army. Following Ranger School and Airborne School, Sean was assigned as a Platoon Leader in the 10th Mountain Division at Fort Drum, New York. He deployed to Iraq in 2009 as a Company Executive Officer, and finished his deployment as a Battalion Chief of Operations after his promotion to Captain. His military awards include the Ranger Tab, Parachutist Badge, Army Commendation Medal, and Iraq Campaign Medal with Campaign Star.

A CAREER IN PUBLIC SERVICE

Following his honorable discharge from the Army, Sean graduated from the University at Buffalo Law School. Sean was hired as an Assistant District Attorney in the Erie County District Attorney’s office, serving his community as a prosecutor. He has worked with local law enforcement and victims prosecuting hundreds of misdemeanor and felony cases throughout Erie County.

Sean lives in East Aurora with his wife Mary, who served as a nurse in the United States Navy and is currently a Lieutenant Commander in the Navy Reserve. They have two sons: John and Will. As a passionate hockey fan and fourth generation Sabres season ticket holder, Sean assists in coaching John’s novice hockey team.
